we have traveled over 40,000 miles in the past two years on our Breast Express RV to support moms and families, show up for breastfeeders, pumpers and women in the midst of postpartum, and to nourish mothers in so many cities, so many towns. (more than 50, in fact!)
in each place we visited, we listened to your stories, your challenges, your needs.
and we heard you: you need better lactation support at work.
we understand as breastfeeding, working mothers there are many challenges you face and that sometimes being at work makes it too hard to keep going. many of you expressed feelings of isolation, as you were the only woman pumping in your department, or one in very few.
lots of you said you were sitting in spaces that feel dark, uninviting or cold; some of you have no space at all.
we heard you weren’t always comfortable speaking up about your needs and that managers may or may not understand the demands of pumping and that navigating schedules and supply questions is no easy feat.
and all of this, despite the US Department of Health’s initiative aimed at increasing the proportion of employers that have worksite lactation programs from 25% to 38%. (and hopefully, even higher!)
